U.S. parents said satisfied with schools

PRINCETON, N.J., Aug. 24 (UPI) -- More U.S. parents are satisfied with their children's education than members of the public are happy with education in general, an annual Gallup poll reported.
Gallup often finds Americans rate aspects of society more positively on the local level than on the national level. This is especially true in education, the pollster said.
In Gallup's annual Work and Education survey, parents have each year felt more positive about their own children's education than the public felt about education in general.
This year, 76 percent of American parents said they were satisfied with the education their children receive. Only 45 percent of the general public is positive about education.
Gallup found no appreciable difference between parents of public school students and parents of those in private or parochial schools.
The record high of parental satisfaction was 83 percent in 1999.
Gallup sampled 1,010 adults Aug. 6 and reported a 4 percentage point margin of error. Parents accounted for 223 respondents with an 8 percentage point margin of error.

MODERN SCHOOL COUNSELORS are too often the only advocates many children have. The thin red line between hope and hopelessness. In the face of chronic failure, neglect, abuse and worse. We carry on with the US Supreme court mandate that all children should have a free and adequate education "socialization" skills are a necessary adjunct if men are to be seen as equals. That statement is more true and necessary today. Counselors meet these needs and more in the education setting.
